Weather Report 1/6/19

TODAY’S WEATHER DISCUSSION AND FORECAST:
Good Morning.
Snow and rain fell across the area last night as a mixture of cold and warm air moved through SoCal. Some flooding was reported in the Santa Barbara and Ventura areas along with debris flow in the recent Fire areas. Most of the energy from this storm stayed along the Coastal region and or West of the mountains. Local Rainfall totals ran around .50-.75″ from what I could get so far this morning. Most of the snow stayed above the 5000′ level with 1-3″s reported locally in Twin Peaks. Local Snowfall totals below.
Today we will slowly clear out as the area of Low pressure over SoCal moves East. Another weak wave will move through to our North later tonight but should only make it to Santa Barbara before falling apart. A transitory Ridge of High pressure will set up over SoCal through Wednesday when another weak wave will move through the West. I don’t expect any rain from this one either South of Point Conception, or Santa Barbara. For Thursday and Friday, we will be under a Ridge of High pressure again, then another stronger system should arrive Friday night and Saturday. This system looks strong enough to bring rain or snow to our area for Saturday. Sunday we will be in the clearing mode.
On the longer range outlook, another system is possible for the following Monday. As it looks this morning, we will continue to see systems work their way through the flow for the next seven to ten days. Most of the energy from these systems will stay just North of our area, but we will see a couple make it here over the next week.
