At 1:50 pm on Saturday, emergency crews were dispatched to a reported traffic collision with possible injuries on State Route 18 (Hilltop Blvd) near View Drive in downtown Running Springs. The California Highway Patrol (CHP), Running Springs Fire Department (RSFD), and the California Department of Forestry & Fire Protection (CalFIRE) responded to the incident and found a solo vehicle into an unoccupied commercial building. The driver was out of the vehicle and the passengers were sitting inside the vehicle.

According to the driver, he was driving eastbound on Hilltop Blvd and for an unknown reason, he left the roadway and crashed into the building. He stated that he was dizzy and confused, but due to language barriers, it is unknown if this occurred before or after the incident. The traffic was heavy and moving slowly at the time of the accident. The road was clear of ice and there was good visibility.

The tan Toyota pickup truck, which was headed to Big Bear to play in the snow, caused only minor, non-structural damage to the building, as well as minor damage to the vehicle. None of the occupants, including the driving, desired medical care.

Traffic was not affected by the incident. CHP is investigating the cause of the accident.
