At 4:33 p.m. on January 30th 2019 a call went in to 911 dispatchers reporting a structure fire in the 300 block of Maple Lane in Sugarloaf at the east end of the Big Bear Valley. Crews from station 283 and 282 along with the Battalion Chief arrived on scene and found smoke showing from both sides of the residence.

The homeowner was at home at the time taking a shower when the over head heater/fan caught fire. Firefighters cut power to that source and determined there was no damage to the residence.

Firefighters used a thermal imaging camera (TIC) to inspect the residence. This vital tool helps to see through smoke and monitor the fire’s spread, so they can quickly visualize the plan of attack, locate hot spots, and save lives. Nothing was seen on this camera and they deemed the residence safe. There homeowner was advised to call an electrician.

Although the source of the fire was located it is unsure what caused it to burn out.
