Chimney Fire In Fawnskin Becomes the Last Fire of 2018 in Big Bear

A structure fire broke out in the 39000 block of Red Robin Lane in Fawnskin on Dec 31st 2018 at 11:19 pm. First responders from station 96 and 281 arrived on scene to find smoke showing from the residence.

A female, her child and dog were sitting outside wrapped in a blanket as a male resident was throwing water on the fire. According to the resident they had a fire going in their fireplace when one of the occupants discovered smoke coming out in between the mantle and the fireplace. The male occupant immediately grabbed water and started throwing it on the Fire and told his wife to call 911. Units on scene started breaking the walls down around the fireplace to gain access to the heat source.

The fire fighters had to knockdown half of the wall and was able to contain the fire to just one side of the residence. The family was just minutes away from going upstairs and going to bed. The quick work from the fire department contained the fire in just under 45 minutes. The exact cause of the fire is under investigation at this time. Firefighters were on scene at this fire when the clock struck midnight bringing in 2019.
