Kdog’s Road Report 4/12/18

Fog this morning, coming down Hwy 18 from Crestline… that was not expected! It’s not bad… just moderate (Light fog: You can do 80 MPH or so… Moderate fog: You can still do 80 MPH, but it’ll be sort of Fruit- of- the- Loom clenching, and passengers may perform acts of self- preservation up to and including leaping from the car…. Heavy fog: You can still do 80 MPH, but you are going to wipe the hell out, for sure). The moderate fog lasts until around Lower Bonnie Canyon Bridge (that’s the bridge that is about 1- 1/2 miles uphill from the Upper Waterman Canyon Road exits).
There’s another type of fog around the 3000 ft. area, as it appears that somebody has exposed the important part of a skunk. It’s pretty intense, even eye- watering, but, for those headed to Rancho Cucamonga, in the Fourth Street area, it sort of provides a pre- de- sensitization for the every. single. day. putridness… of the sewage treatment plant with the sewage scent that is no treat.
Didn’t see rocks on the road today, but, we do have a wind event that has been predicted, so the rocks are coming. I think that maybe the rocks blow in from the Rocky Mountain Range, or something. Whatever the case, keep in mind that on the downhill ride, that right lane is going to have 95% of the rocks. That’s where they like to lay in wait, hungry for oil pans, tires, even differentials, none of which are things that you want to offer to them. When rocks are on the road, you will want to spend more time in the left lane. This is the only circumstance under which I will encourage, and offer my blessing, to those who drive in the left lane even when nobody is in the right lane.
Oh, and news flash: For your ride home this afternoon, you may notice that CalTrans has AGAIN put signs up on the Waterman exit from the 210 eastbound: These signs are to announce that on February 8 and February 9— of 2018— the exit will be closed intermittently. So, just mark that on your calendars, as those dates are coming up in just two months ago. Thanks for the timely warning, CalTrans!
