Today’s Forecast for Crestline, Twin Peaks, Lake Arrowhead and the San Bernardino Mountains:

04/28/2018.

Good Morning.

Today we will have another nice day across the mountains. Clear skies today with cooler temperatures will be the forecast. Light Fog and Haze will stay in the Valley today.

The weather pattern across the Country, and locally, has changed to a more typical Spring like pattern. The first of several weak waves will pass through the area tonight. This along with a Catalina Eddy will help to deepen, and push the Marine layer further Inland tonight, and tomorrow morning.

A 552mb area of Low pressure will come onshore along the Coast of Oregon today. This system will remain mostly stationary over Oregon, and NorCal today through Sunday morning. As this system moves South Sunday night, the Marine layer will deepen locally to the 5000′ level by Sunday evening. We will also have gusty winds from 10-35mph at times through Monday. The Marine layer should deepen sufficiently to affect the Monday morning commute with fog possible to the 6000′ level.

Monday and Tuesday a slow moving long wave trough will develop bringing a chance for rain to SoCal through Wednesday morning. Thunderstorms will be a possibility Tuesday with lowering snow levels to around the 6500-7000′ level as well. The current moisture accumulation expected is from .25-.75″ for the San Bernardino Mountains. Snow accumulations above the 6500′ level are for 1-4″ possible.

If Thunderstorms do develop, both of those amounts can increase in the affected areas. These type of systems are typical of this time of year. Cut Off Lows that form into short and long wave troughs over the West can change dynamics quickly making forecasting this time of year even more challenging. Also as they move from West to East, they can cause severe weather in the mid West with Tornados and strong Thunderstorms. RC

Have a good day and enjoy the nice Mountain weather. RC
