WEATHER DISCUSSION AND FORECAST:

Good Morning.
The NWS has issued a WINTER STORM WARNING for the local area above 6000′ for the possibility of heavy snow accumulations.
…TRENDS: An area of Low pressure off of the Central California Coast will remain stationary through Tuesday night. Over the next three day this Low will spin off waves of energy across the SoCal region. This will result in periods of rain and or snow locally. The snow levels will be above the 5500′ level today then lowering to around the 4500-5000′ level by tonight.
…Today: Rain showers and Snow showers will be likely as cold air and gusty winds move through the area. Snow showers are expected above the ~5000′ level today with 2-4″ possible. Gusty Winds from the South will blow through most of the day gusting to 35mph in some areas. Fog and low clouds can be expected on the local Hwys today making for poor driving conditions. Showers will be increasing tonight as another short wave works through the area.
…Monday: Rain with snow above the 5000′ level. Accumulations of 1-3″ above the 5000′ level with 3-7″ above 6000′. Rainfall melted snow totals expected are .50-1.25″. Fog, rain, snow and gusty winds will continue to make for poor driving conditions. Snowplows will be out all week so use caution around those vehicles and park off the road so they can get through your roads.
…Tuesday: More snow will be likely during the morning as the last in this series of storms moves through. Snow will be possible top the 3500′ level, yes, 3500′ level. This system is not to strong as it looks this morning so we should see clearing skies by late afternoon. 1-3″ is possible from this last storm above the 4000′ level.
Fog, low clouds, gusty winds, and blowing snow with very cold temperatures will make for more bad driving conditions through Wednesday morning
…Long Range outlook. Clearing skies through Friday with very cold temps. Another series of storms may arrive Saturday so don’t put away your snow shovels yet. Were just getting warmed up!
…On the long range Crystal Ball outlook for February, overall it looks like wet weather will be the norm through the month. RC
