Just before 1:00 pm on Friday, a solo vehicle traffic accident occured on Highway 18 at mile marker 9. That is located at the last turn going down highway 18, just below Lower Waterman Canyon Road.

The vehicle, identifiable only noted as a four door sedan, lost control for unknown reasons and hit the guard rail. The vehicle then slammed into the side of the mountain and erupted into flames. This set off a small Vegetation fire on the hillside.

The fire quickly grew, but before it could get out of hand, San Bernardino County Fire arrived on scene. Those crews as well as CalFire and US Forest Service Crews knocked both the car fire and the brush fire down in minutes.

Whole that scene was working, a mile south of this incident another traffic collison was reported. Medics and fire crews quickly rendered aid at that scene as well.

Downbound Highway 18 was closed for just over two hours while crews mopped up the burn area and the San Bernardino Police units on scene investigated and had the car towed. There were no reports of injuries to fire fighters. One patient was transported with unknown injuries.
