US Forest Service Cancels Prescribed Burns in Big Bear

Article and photos by Raymond Ray

The U.S. Forest Service had 30 acres of brush piles planned to be burned today in Big Bear but conditions did not lend themselves to such activities.

U.S. Forest Service fire trucks and utility trucks lined the side of Sand Canyon Road in Upper Moonridge this morning as fire crews attempted to start burning the piles. Weather conditions were perfect for the fires but the fuel moisture was too high and heavy snow prevented the operations from continuing. By 11:30 a.m. crews were in mop-up mode waiting for the last of the test burn to burn out.

These burns have been rescheduled for a future date. Follow us on Facebook to get alerts for future prescribed burn activity.
