Update: Lake Gregory Dam Improvement Project

At a recent Lake Gregory Community Meeting several updates and the latest status were provided regarding the retrofitting of the 80-year-old Lake Gregory Dam and related projects. This rehabilitation project is being overseen by the County of San Bernardino Special Districts Department and regulated by the State of California Division of Safety of Dams. The meeting allowed the County of San Bernardino and RockForce Construction the opportunity to provide Crestline residents with an overview of the Lake Gregory Dam Improvement Project.

If you wonder if the project is on schedule to be complete in early 2019, the answer is yes. The project is currently on schedule and proceeding according to plan.

Below are some pertinent updates:

School Transportation Plan :  The County of San Bernardino worked with the Rim of the World Unified School District to provide transportation for students living in the impacted project area. On Monday, September 17, Mountain Transit began providing shuttle services for Rim of the World Unified School District students. Any questions about school transportation should be directed to the Rim of the World School District at  (909) 336-4100.
Dewatering :   Residents reported hearing pumping noises from the wells on the dam. This is the sound of generators being used as part of the dewatering system needed to maintain a dry foundation for construction. The generators run around the clock and are congregated at the lowest part of the construction site. The generators will be removed as soon as construction conditions warrant, but will more than likely remain an operational necessity for the next few months.

Truck Hauling:   Trucks began hauling some material for the dam on September 13. Truck drivers have been instructed to use Lake Gregory Drive to enter and exit town. When the hauling is in full swing, there is expected to be approximately 40-120 truck trips per day, for up to 90 days. Hauling is scheduled Monday-Friday from 6:30 a.m.- 5 p.m. and could include Saturdays while the weather conditions allow. Trucks will deliver materials to the Lake Gregory Dam worksite and haul away dredged material from the stockpile near the San Moritz Lodge. It only takes minutes for trucks to load and unload materials. Truck drivers have been advised to use extreme caution when traveling on mountain roads.
Road Enhancements:   Toward the end of the project, road enhancements will be made on San Moritz Way. These additions include a painted center dividing line, street side curbs, final paving, re-establishment of the walking path and pothole repair. In the interim, a temporary dividing line has been installed for the safety of residents. San Moritz Way was opened early to necessitate detour routes given the closure of Lake Drive over the dam. San Moritz Way has been widened to accommodate two-way traffic and handle high vehicle volumes safely.
