The Cool Run in the Mountains Car and Motorcycle Show, hosted by Rodriders of Big Bear, is the headliner of car shows in our mountains. Traditionally the final show of the season, the Cool Run is a Big Bear staple. Held at the Big Bear Convention Center, this event will showcase unique cars and motorcycles, from classic to modern. All years, makes, and models are welcome to compete for a variety of awards. Vehicles can take home the prize in categories judged by experts in each area, like best muscle car, best paint, best family car, best engine, and more. Attendees will also have an opportunity to vote for their favorites with the People’s Choice Award.

This awesome, free event kicks off Saturday at 9:00 a.m. at the Convention Center, where breakfast will be available. A DJ will be on hand, providing live music throughout the day. Beginning at 11:30 a.m., Sonora Cantina will be catering a taco lunch.

The Rodriders of Big Bear work closely with local merchants for donations, funds, and community support to make the event a truly memorable experience. Brad Shelkey, a 10-year member of Rodriders, calls the merchants of Big Bear Valley a “very generous community.” Every year, between 60 and 70 different businesses come together to contribute in the form of sponsoring winning cars. Brad says his favorite part of the event is, “Getting to know the business community, all of the owners and managers; the reward for me is participating and heading up this car show.”

The Rodriders of Big Bear was founded in 2008 by Pat Perry, who was, by all accounts, a wonderful guy. Sadly, Pat passed away in 2014, but his legacy lives on in the hearts of the Rodriders. The club meets twice a month, and there is only one rule…there are no rules. Rodriders of Big Bear is not a registered car club, but rather and informal group of guys and gals who share a passion for cars and motorcycles. The group is community-centric; the proceeds from the car show will go to benefit non-profit organizations throughout the Big Bear Valley.

The Rodriders donate a lot of the proceeds to DOVES of Big Bear Valley, whose focus is to “provide safety for and empower survivors of domestic violence.” The club helps animals in need by donating to BARC (Benevolent Animal Rescue Committee) and BMDR (Bear Mountain Dog Rescue). These services rescue and help rehome animals, as well as assist in the spaying and neutering our furry friends. The Rodriders are also helping to support the relocation of the Big Bear Alpine Zoo.

Come down this Saturday, August 31st, from 9:00 a.m. ‘til 3:00 p.m., and help to support our wonderful community programs. The day is described as “a lot of camaraderie; a sharing of time, people, and vehicles.” The Cool Run in the Mountains Car and Motorcycle Show is your last opportunity of the season to enjoy a stunning display of vehicles, glittering against our beautiful mountain vistas.
