Solo Vehicle Accident Temporally Stops Traffic on 173

At 10:01 p.m. on Tuesday, emergency crews responded to reports of a solo vehicle accident just north of Emerald Drive on Highway 173.

San Bernardino County Fire units from Station 92 arrived on scene to find a rollover accident with one vehicle involved. The vehicle, a Ford Taurus, for unknown reasons appeared to have left the roadway, then collided with the hillside causing it to overturn. The driver was evaluated for injuries and was found to have cuts and scrapes but no serious injuries. The driver did not need medical treatment and declined transportation to the hospital.

California Highway Patrol Officers arrived on scene after an extended ETA due to heavy fog on Highway 18. The arriving officers stood by and held traffic with Medic Engine 92 while Mountain Auto Service rolled vehicle back onto its wheels and hooked it up on a flatbed tow truck. Traffic was stopped in both directions for about 20 minutes. Two San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department units were on scene during the vehicle recovery as well.

The cause of the accident is unknown at this time. The California Highway Patrol is investigating.
