Solo vehicle accident knocks power out and causes small brush fire

At 2:17 pm on May 25th a solo vehicle collided with a power pole on Big Bear Blvd (Highway 38) and Bernhardt. A black Ford ranger was traveling east when for unknown reasons it collided with the pole. The power pole was damaged causing a transformer to catch fire and spread to near by brush and wood fence. Fire Fighters from station 283 were traveling back to their station when they came upon the the incident. A multi agency response was requested. Medic engine 282 arrived on scene with in minutes of the call going out. Quick action by Big Bear Fire Department stopped the fire from spreading.The fire was knocked down with in minutes of units arriving on scene. California highway patrol with the help of Caltrans closed the highway for hours while Bear Valley Electric repaired the lines. Power was out for a couple hours due to this incident.The cause of the crash is unknown at this time.
