Sheriff’s Aviation conduct a hoist rescue of a man who crashed his motorcycle on a trail east of Baldwin LakeDATE/TIME: June 20th, 2020, at 1:00 p.m. 

INCIDENT: Hoist Rescue 

LOCATION: Big Bear 

VICTIM(S): John Potter, 56 years old, San Clemente 

SUMMARY: 
On Saturday, June 20, 2020, at approximately 1:00 p.m., John Potter was riding an off-road motorcycle on a trail east of Baldwin Lake, when he lost control and was ejected over the handlebars. Sustaining serious injuries and unable to move, his friends called 911 for help. 

San Bernardino County Sheriff Department’s patrol helicopter responded to the area and located Potter in a remote and rugged area. Due to the severity of Potter’s injuries and his location, the flight crew determined a hoist rescue would need to be conducted and requested a rescue helicopter. 

San Bernardino County Sheriff Department’s Air Rescue 308 responded to the incident and lowered a rescue medic down to Potter. After assessing his injuries, Potter was placed in a rescue basket and hoisted into the helicopter. After hoisting the medic back into the helicopter, Air Rescue 308 transported Potter to a local trauma center for treatment.
