The Grand Opening of the Hilltop Chinese Restaurant in Running Springs was on Saturday, and if the constant stream of patrons is any indication, the venue is a welcome addition to the culinary offerings in town. The restaurant officially began business Saturday at 10:30 am, after selling out to a “soft opening” on Friday. By 7:00 pm on Saturday, at least 500 people had been served.

The Hilltop Chinese Restaurant serves traditional Chinese Food like you would find at a chain fast food restaurant, although the menu does vary day-to-day. On Sunday I went for lunch and ordered their two item combination plate – half fried rice, half chow mein, along with orange chicken, broccoli beef, and an eggroll. The food was fresh, warm and delicious. Owners Majid Nazari and Leila Wong, along with their son Ali, pride themselves in serving only fresh food. On weekends, they will start serving sushi, and there is an all-you-can-eat option for larger groups.

Majid and Leila are new to the Mountains and wanted to open the restaurant to give the community another option for food. Long-time Southern California residents, they originally came to Running Springs to buy a cabin, but when they saw that the old Don Pepe’s restaurant, which had been sitting empty for about 7 years, was for sale, they decided to go into the restaurant business. It took 14 months to completely remodel the building, which now a clean, family-friendly, and inviting establishment.

Majid and Leila sees their restaurant as a place were people can come together for a meal, or to celebrate a special event. The outdoor dining area can be reserved for parties. They have plans to have live music and host community events. Hilltop Chinese Restaurant is located on Hilltop Drive in downtown Running Springs. They are open Monday through Sunday, 10:30 am to 8:30 pm.
