Motorcycle Rider Narrowly Escapes Injury When Mattress Falls off of Truck in Front of Him

At 4:07 p.m., the California Highway Patrol received a report of a traffic collision on Baldwin Lake Road near Parkway Drive east of Big Bear City. The original call came out as a Harley-Davidson versus mattress. The rider was not injured during the crash, but the mattress did get tangled in the front wheel and caused him to go off the roadway nearly hitting a fence.

The mattress and a box spring fell off the back of a moving truck on the roadway going in the opposite direction of the motorcycle rider. The box spring and mattress fell right in the riders path. None of the items piled in the truck were tied down. The California Highway Patrol dispatched the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department from the Big Bear station. When the deputies arrived they simply had the drivers exchange information. The front rim and wheel of the motorcycle was damaged during the accident.
