Men Walking in High Heels for a Cause

Marching that mile.

Saturday, September 30, 2018 in Big Bear was a kick off event to “Paint the Golden State Purple” in conjunction with Walk a Mile in Her Shoes and Domestic Violence Awareness month. Frank Baird created Walk a Mile in Her Shoes in 2001, with a goal of getting men involved in a gender united movement aimed at raising awareness and creating a solution to sexualized violence against women.  Men all over the world are trading in their work boots and sneakers for a pair of high heels.  These brave men willing to talk the talk, are also showing they are willing to walk the walk, literally. For one mile they don the heels and walk a mile in was has been termed a political and performance art piece with public, personal and existential messages.

Walk a Mile in Her Shoes exsists to connect and publicize the efforts to raise awareness and funds for sexualized education, prevention and remediation.  This has resulted in tens of thousands of men raising millions of dollars for local rape crisis centers, domestic violence shelters and other much needed resources. Our mountain communities were proud member of this movement, including the Big Bear High School football team.
