Management Staff Prepares to Open Jenks Lake for Spring 2019

Jenks Lake is a small Lake in the San Bernardino Mountains

Jenks Lake is a small mountain lake in the San Bernardino Mountains that covers approximately 10 acres. It is open mid April through mid October from sunrise to sunset. There are picnic tables and hiking trails. Parking is $5 per vehicle. There are restrooms but no consessions. The nearest supplies are available in Angelus Oaks.

Hiking opportunities abound near Jenks Lake

There and numerous campgrounds located along Jenks Lake Rd. Jenks Lake Picnic Area is a day use area only at an elevation of 6,800 feet. This picnic area provides accessible fishing from either the fishing pier or from several fishing pads along the shore. Jenks Like staff is preparing to open the facilities April 12th for the season that runs until October. Jenks Lake is good for fishing, bird-watching, educational walks, outdoor exercise, hiking and family picnics.

In both spring and summer, The California Department of Fish and Wildlife can be found planting farm-raised rainbow trout in the lake. In addition to the trout, the Lake also offers several other species of fish including bass, catfish, and bluegill. The fishing season generally runs from April through October.

Fishing can be enjoyed by all with a valid fishing license

Many visitors to Jenks Lake enjoy boating. Regulations in effect for the lake prohibit motorized boats however hand-launched and human powered boating is allowed.

Wildlife is plentiful around Jenks Lake in the San Bernardino Mountains

This is a day use facility, overnight camping is not allowed. One should note however that there are many overnight campgrounds along Highway 38 near the Santa Ana River. many of those campgrounds are first come first served in all of them are administered by the United States Forest Service.

  1. Have you clean the weeds out yet? Our is the only open water available by float tube only?

  2. You said it’s preparing to open but I’m the article it says mid April ? Will you post what weekend they are opening when you find out ?
