Lake Gregory Dam Work on December 2 to Make Up For Rain Delay

To make up for the time lost due to yesterday’s rain storm, work on the Lake Gregory Dam will be underway this Sunday from 7 a.m.-5 p.m. Residents will notice the crew proceeding with material placement on the buttress and drain. We appreciate your patience as we work to build a better Lake Gregory! Closure of Highway 18 at The Narrows on December 4

Caltrans will be conducting maintenance repairs on The Narrows portion of Highway 18 on Tuesday, December 4. From 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. Highway 18 will be closed in both directions to all vehicles between the State Route 138 interchange to Crest Forest. Due to the road closure, hauling trucks for the Lake Gregory Dam Improvement Project will be rerouted to enter Crestline through Crest Forest Drive and come across Lake Drive. This temporary alternate route is in effect for December 4 only. Trucks are expected to return to their originally scheduled route from Highway 18 to Lake Gregory Drive on Wednesday, December 5.

From the abetterlakegregory.org website:

The 80-year-old dam at Lake Gregory Regional Park has been deemed a “high hazard dam” by the California Division of Safety of Dams (DSOD).To retrofit the existing dam to meet state earthquake safety standards, a 40-foot earthen buttress will be added to the downstream side of the dam and extend 62 feet beyond the toe of the embankment. The Lake Gregory Dam Rehabilitation project is being overseen by the County of San Bernardino Special Districts department and will be completed in 2019.
