Dr. Jane’s Wellness Insights – Glowing Gratitude

You may have discovered that gratitude brings a natural high. Our thoughts and acts that arise from kindness and gratitude are related to the release of the neuro-hormone dopamine, which gives us that great feeling. Gratitude reduces anxiety and depression, allows for improved sleep and is a well-being tonic. The American Heart Association hails gratitude as a big health boost. Dr. Robert Emmons, Ph.D., UC Davis cites lowered blood pressure and immune enhancement as a by-product of thankfulness. Create gratitude practices in your daily life. Write thank you notes, make thank you calls, keep a gratitude journal and send your appreciation everywhere. Thank the server lavishly when you have a meal out, and thank the cook when you eat at home. Give the postmaster lots of praise and thanks when you pick up your mail. Small gestures of thanks go a long way. Consider making a crystal gratitude grid with a handful of stones and each day add a small note with your thanks inscribed. Place notes of gratitude in the center of your holiday table, and after your meal have someone read all the gracious words. If you are having a day of solitude, list your thankfulness aloud and share with the unseen angels that may be sharing your day. The checker at the local market will love hearing your appreciation. The spirit of benevolence generated brings healing and comfort to many in these simple acts of kindness. Gratitude improves physical health, mental health and uplifts our spirits.  We become the best of who we are through these exchanges and all benefit. The giver, the receiver and all in the vibration of our expressions thrive. Watch a child as we offer a thank you. See your pet enliven with joy when we appreciate their devoted companionship. When you’re feeling low, feeling strong, feeling burdened, feeling carefree, feeling anxious or feeling on top of the world, be grateful and tell someone. And tell yourself. Pick up a piece of Rose Quartz, Kunzite or Clear Quartz and hold it to your heart. Then make 5 gratitude statements. Repeat for 5 days and then pick up the stone in a low moment and let the vibration surround you in comfort and a gem version of dopamine. The next time you offer thanks to someone, watch their eyes dance. See how every word is held in grace. We are designed to glow in gratitude. Keep the glow going. A grateful heart beats in peace and well-being.
