As of Friday evening, the San Bernardino Mountain highways are under maximum enforcement period for the holiday weekend. Labor Day weekend is one of the busiest weekends on California highways and the CHP has doubled the number of officers on patrol across the state.

CHP officers working under this maximum enforcement will specifically be looking for drivers under the influence and distracted drivers. “It makes me feel safe and secure driving around with my family this weekend knowing that the officers are out looking for drunk drivers,” Heather Dufford, a Twin Peaks resident shared. She also added a bit of humourous yet helpful advice for everyone driving around this weekend. “Drive like Jesus is watching.”

The Highway Patrol stated in a press release that during the Labor Day weekend in 2018 over a thousand arrests were made across the state due to driving under the influence and that 36 motorists lost their lives due to impaired and distracted driving related accidents.

The California Highway Patrol maximum period started on Friday evening at 6:00 p.m. and will continue until Monday night at 11:59 pm.

“Impaired driving remains one of the most serious traffic-related problems on our roadways today,” CHP Commissioner Warren Stanley said. “Let’s end the summer safely and remember to designate a sober driver, wear your seatbelt and obey all traffic laws.”

  1. Increased enforcement welcome – been coming up the Mtn since 1969 high school. Resient 2 yrs. Good thing for turnouts – too many speeders – 35- 40 seems fast enough to negotiate most turns. A lot of other drivers seem to have great life insurance policy’s- thanks
