Annual Arrowbear Lake Fire Department Open House

Arrowbear Lake Fire Department (ABLFD) held their annual open house at Fire Station 271 on Saturday, October 26th. This popular community event gives the public an opportunity to meet the fire fighters and emergency resources that protect and serve the mountain communities.

Outside on the apron (or driveway for us civilians), fire engines were on display, and children were invited to climb on board into the driver’s (or Engineers) seat and get a hands-on feel on how impressive these rigs are. Older kids tried their hand at knocking down traffic cones with a pressurized fire hose. One noticeable piece of equipment that was missing from the static display was Water Tender 271, which was out assisting on the Tick Fire in Los Angeles County.

Inside the apparatus bay, firefighters were serving up hot dogs, chili, and nachos. And of course, seeing as it was the weekend before Halloween, handing out lots of candy. Guests were able to chat with the Fire Chief and firefighters, who are all volunteers. Residents were also offered a demonstration and instruction of performing CPR.

It was a beautiful day to handout with the Fire Department. Dozens of locals, and many visitors who were just driving by, stopped in to show their support for this important community service.
