Woman Escapes Injury During Pilot Rock Accident

At 2:06 p.m. on Tuesday, the California Highway Patrol and San Bernardino County Fire Units responded to reports of an accident on Highway 138 near Pilot Rock.

According to a statement made by the vehicle driver at the scene, a boulder had fallen down onto the highway in her path of travel. She swerved to avoid the boulder, spun out and ended up on the hillside.

Medic Engine 25 and Medic Ambulance 25 from Station 25 on Crest Forest Drive in Crestline responded along with two CHP units from the Running Springs office.

The vehicle sustained a significant amount of damage in the accident including the entire driver side front suspension being torn off the frame. All of the airbags in the vehicle deployed. The female driver was checked for injuries at the scene.

Traffic on Highway 138 was impacted during the vehicle recovery. Emergency crews blocked the upbound lanes and alternated traffic in the downbound lanes until the scene had been cleared.

By 3:05 PM, all lanes had been cleared and reopened fully to traffic. This accident is under investigation by the California Highway Patrol.
