If you’re looking for a lighter alternative to a cheeseburger for dinner, try these quick and easy Greek gyros, smothered in delicious homemade tzatziki sauce. Grating the garlic and onion as opposed to mincing really cuts down on the prep time. Serve these yummy gyros topped with thinly sliced red onions, sliced tomatoes, sliced cucumber, and/or shredded lettuce.

Greek Gyros Recipe

Ingredients:

For the gyro:

1/2 lb. ground beef

1/2 lb. ground lamb

3 cloves garlic – grated

1 small white onion – grated

1/4 tsp. allspice

1 ½ tsp. salt

1/2 tsp. black pepper

1 tbsp. olive oil

For the tzatziki sauce:

1 cup Greek yogurt

1 clove garlic – grated

1 tbsp. lemon juice

1 ½ tsp. fresh dill – chopped

Directions:

Combine the ground beef, ground lamb, onions, garlic, allspice, salt, and pepper in a mixing bowl and use your hands to thoroughly combine the ingredients. (You can use a spoon if you’re squeamish, but nothing works better than your hands to really mix it up.)

Shape the meat into 10 – 12 small patties and set aside.

Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium/high heat, then add the patties and cook about three minutes per side, or until the patties reach an internal temperature of 160℉.

While the patties cook, quickly mix together the Greek yogurt, grated garlic, lemon juice, and dill. Season to taste with salt and pepper, if desired.

Serve the cooked patties nestled in warm pita bread, along with desired toppings and a big dollop of tzatziki sauce.
