Local Lake Reports

BIG BEAR LAKE:

Fishin’ for 50K Trout Derby is taking place this weekend starting on 6/7 at 6:00pm and ending on 6/9 at 9:00pm. Anglers will have a chance to catch 5 tagged fish worth $10K each. Anglers have been doing well this past week trolling lures from a boat at different depths to find where fish are holding. Shore anglers have been doing well from North shore by dam and windy point. Rig of choice is Carolina rig with long leader with power bait or Berkley Mice tails. Big bear stocked heavily for this weekends derby. So get there early to catch the morning bite.

 GREEN VALLEY LAKE:

Green Valley Lake just received a fresh stock of 450 lbs. from Jess Ranch. Following last week’s stock fishing has been good. Mini jigs spoons and yellow power bait have been working well. The hot spot is early morning by the dam from boat or shore.

 ARROWBEAR LAKE:

Trout bite is still decent at Arrowbear. CDFW is expected to stock again this coming week. Inflated nightcrawlers on Carolina rig has been the ticket with a few being caught on mini jigs as well. Early morning or mid day have been the best times to fish.

 LAKE GREGORY:

Trout bite has been great. Anglers are still doing well in baseball field cove and back cove by dam. Mini jigs, spoons and Berkley Micetails have been the ticket. Lake Gregory is expected to receive a trout stock from CDFW this coming week.

 SILVERWOOD LAKE:

Silverwood trout fishing is on fire! Well over 12,000 lbs. of trout have been dumped in from Calaveras trout hatchery. Reports of trout in the 2-4lb range have been caught in Cleghorn using mini jigs, spoons and spinners. With that much trout anytime of day should be decent.

 CATCH OF THE WEEK:

This weeks catch of the week is Mountain Top Anglers member Johnny with a nice striper caught from the marina dock with bait.

Question:

What kind of music should you listen to while fishing?

(Answer Below)

WEEKLY RIG: Spoon

A spoon is a lure that wobbles side to side of the retrieve or on the fall. Tied to a swivel to prevent line twist connect spoon to swivel. Cast out and count down your depths then reel in slowly.
