TODAY’S WEATHER DISCUSSION AND FORECAST:

..Good Morning.
..Trends: Clearing and cool, then warmer for the weekend.
Today we will have clear skies and cool temperatures as a fairly deep Tough across the West continues to be our main weather feature. Today and Tuesday, a couple of weak atmospheric waves will pass across the area as the upper level flow continues from the NW. The air mass over our area is from an anomalous early season cold core Low to our Northeast, so cool temperatures will remain over our region through Tuesday night or Wednesday morning. I read this morning that Browning Montana, received 48″, yes, four feet of snow!
..All of this will begin to shift out of our area on Wednesday, as a Ridge of High pressure begins to build across the West. Temperatures will slowly warm up to around normal for this time of year by Thursday. Clear skies will be the forecast along with a brief Santa Ana type wind for Tuesday night and Wednesday morning as the Trough moves East and we get the backside circulation winds. This should NOT be a big wind event as winds are expected to remain under 20mph for the local mountains. The only exception will be along the Ridges where winds may exceed that level. The air mass will be dry so please be careful with your BBQ’s or any outdoor fire. Also I read a good point made by one of our local residents on Facebook the other day, try not to use your fireplace during Santa Ana wind events as sparks could start a fire on your roof or in a nearby tree or other.
..On the longer range outlook, the weekend looks like we will have nice weather with warmer temperatures around or above normal. We may see the Marine layer deepen on and off during the week but no fog is in our Mountain forecast.
..That’s it for now. Thanks for joining me at lakegregoryweather.com
