Today, we start the day with clear skies across the area, and no fog, on the local HWYs. Today we will begin a weather change that will last for the next week. The surface flow this morning is weakly onshore from the Coast to the Desert. Later today this will become offshore. This will be the main wind flow pattern for the next several days as diurnal heating and cooling of the surface occurs across the SoCal region. Wind speeds will be from 5-10mph with a few gusts from 10-20mph possible in the wind prone areas.
Temperatures will be the main weather feature for the next five days. An EXCESSIVE HEAT WATCH will be in effect Sunday and Monday as those days are expected to be the hottest of the next five. Local temperatures will be from 72-76* today, 78-82* Saturday, 82-85* Sunday and 82-86* Monday. Big Bear, Running Springs and Green Valley Lake will be a little cooler with highs expected to be in the mid to upper 70s to low 80s in the warmest locations, through the period. San Bernardino will run from 86* today, then warming to the upper 90s to 100* Sunday and Monday.
An area of Low pressure to our South will move through SoCal tomorrow. This will have little effect on our weather other than to produce some gusty winds at times. This Low has very little moisture associated with it at this time, but it may produce a few upper level clouds as it passes through. The Marine layer will remain near the Coast through the period with haze in the mornings possible in the local Valley areas.
On the longer range outlook, Morning clouds may return early next week for the Valley along with a slow cooling trend that should begin Tuesday. With the increase in temperatures and low humidity levels, it’s time to begin thinking about elevated fire danger levels. Today the Fire Danger level is MODERATE.
