Weather Report – 3/6/19

Good Morning.
Not a good night for sleeping as Mother Nature had other ideas! Severe Thunderstorms moved onshore in the Point Conception area last night around 6:30pm. These storms moved Inland over the Santa Barbara area overnight where one of my brothers lives. He said this was the most intense Thunderstorm he has ever seen there, as a lifelong resident of Santa Barbara. These storms then moved toward the IE arriving here around 1:00am this morning with a loud bang! So much for sleeping. Although these storms were very active with lightning, not a lot of rain was associated with these storms due to a dry low level atmosphere absorbing the moisture. As the Cold Front passes through this morning, showers will likely become more widespread across the mountains and Valleys. Today we can expect from 1.5-2.5″ of rain locally. Today’s snow levels will remain quite high (~8000′), as warm air slowly moves out and is replaced by much colder air late tonight or tomorrow morning, the snow levels will lower to the 6500′ level. There will not be much moisture around tomorrow so I don’t expect to see more than .25″ rain and only a trace to 1.00″ of snow at the higher elevations with partly cloudy skies.

..Late Thursday night into Friday morning, another weak wave will move through the flow into SoCal. As this will be much colder it will bring light snow to most areas above the 4500′ level. This system does not have much moisture associated with it therefore light accumulations is all that is expected.
..Saturday and Sunday, we will be under a weak Ridge of High pressure so we will have mostly sunny skies and warmer temperatures. Late Sunday night into Monday, another weak system will arrive and bring more rain/snow to the area. So the weather has returned to a 48hour troughing pattern across SoCal for now. I don’t see any big rain makers at this time in the near future.

..That’s it for today.
..Have a good Day! RC
