TODAY’S WEATHER DISCUSSION AND FORECAST:

Good Morning.
..This morning an upper level area of Low pressure is located offshore just South of Point Conception (near Santa Barbara). The Low will continue to head South today along the West Coast reaching the San Diego area by late this afternoon. Then the Low will begin to move Inland over Northern Baja California spreading showers, and higher elevation snow across most of SoCal for this evening into early Tuesday morning.
.. As of this morning the snow levels are expected to run from 5000-5500′ tonight and Tuesday morning. However, as the Low picks up Sub-Tropical moisture in it’s circulation, warmer air will mix with the cold core Low adding moisture and warming the core of the system. So this may raise the snow levels to the ~6000′ level.
..The center of this Low will pass just South and East of Big Bear early tomorrow, so with a little movement in its expected trajectory we could see more or less rain/snow from this system.
..Thunderstorms are showing up offshore again on the GLM sat pics this morning so there will be a chance for that as well around 4-5pm this afternoon, as the front arrives locally. The main body of this storm will pass overnight so tomorrow morning may bring weather related driving problems to the local mountain areas. Rainfall estimates are running from .50-1.00″ locally, Snowfall amounts for the areas above 6000′ are running from 2-8″ based on elevation.
..As it looks now, Running Springs will be the snow line (~6000′) so wet snow is expected there. Big Bear and Green Valley Lake will see the most accumulation of snow locally. CAPE=~500j,PWAT=.67max, LI-3 so there will be a chance for Lightning, and medium shower activity with this system. (No Flash Flooding is likely but always a possibility when thunderstorms are present)
..Tuesday skies will be clearing out as the Low moves East. Behind the departing Low, North East winds will follow gusting from 10-35mph locally.
.. Temperatures will slowly warm through the rest of the week as High pressure sets up off the Coast. Another weak inside slider may affect our weather Wednesday but it doesn’t look like it will bring anything other than a few clouds to the area or maybe a brief shower.
..Thursday through the weekend, Spring like weather will finally arrive as High pressure over the East Pacific will be our main weather maker for the next 5-7 days.
Enjoy!
..That’s it for today. Thank you for joining me @ lakegregoryweather.com
