WEATHER DISCUSSION AND FORECAST:
Good Morning
Gusty North East winds are blowing across the mountain this morning. Peak gusts are ranging from 15-49mph locally…
…. The Surface pressure Gradient is running around 7-8mbs from Tonopah to San Diego and will likely increase over the next several days with a few lulls in between. The winds should taper off later later today and tomorrow but will increase again Monday and Tuesday with a pressure gradient of close to 20mbs from the Great Basin to the South Coast. …
….For New Years Day, very strong and gusty North East winds are expected. High pressure over the Pacific Ocean will expand toward the Great Basin during this period. This will keep our area free from any storms through early January. ….Cold air advection will arrive with the winds so daytime High temperatures will be running quite cool for the next five days, or so. Sunday looks like the warmest day of the next five as the winds take a short break…
….. New Years Day will likely be the coldest…
…. On the longer range outlook, it looks like we will see a pattern change around the 6th of January. The long range models show several systems working their way through the West from the 6th through the 18th. Of course this is a long way out so this will be worth watching as we get closer to that time frame. However, this may be the first of El Nino affected systems for SoCal…
…. The ENSO 3.4 is expected to peak from late January through March with SST’s of 1.5*c warmer than normal. This will coincide with the peak of our Winter rainy season. So keep your fingers crossed for cold wet storms. So something to watch for….
.. That’s it for today. Enjoy the long Holiday weekend and be safe! Don’t drink and drive. Thank you for joining me @ lakegregoryweather.com. RC
