TODAY’S WEATHER DISCUSSION AND FORECAST:
Good Morning.
…Today we will continue to have lots of high clouds streaming over the area. This will help to moderate daytime and overnight temperatures. The pressure gradient from the Great Basin to the Coast has weakened allowing an onshore to develop mostly along the Coast this morning. There is some fog along the immediate coastal areas this morning as well. All areas will have partly cloudy skies today with a weak SW breeze.
…Wednesday high clouds will thicken as the day progresses with ridge fog likely in the evening through Thursday as a compact closed Low slides South along the California Coast.
…Thursday, Rain and high elevation snow will be the forecast for our area. Rain may be heavy at times with a chance for a Thunderstorm or two as the center of the Low passes over SoCal during the afternoon hours. The snow level will be ~ 6500-7000′ but may be much lower under any Thunderstorm activity that does develop. Rainfall amounts are expected to be from .75-1.25″ from this first storm.
…Friday will be a transitional day between systems with partly cloudy skies and gusty winds.
…Saturday, system #2, the next and wettest of the three systems will arrive. Locally, rainfall amounts are expected to run from 2-5″ for this storm. Rain, heavy at times, may cause flash flooding and debris in roadways. This storm looks like it will have a Tropical Moisture feed (AR) Precipital Moisture (PWAT) is expected to be around 1.25″. Orographic lift will bring the highest rainfall to the South and West facing mountain and foothill slopes locally. The snow level will start out around the 7000′ level and slowly lower to around the 6k-6500′ level by Sunday.
… Late Sunday into Monday system #3 will arrive. This will be the coldest of these three systems with snow levels possibly down to the 4500′ level by Monday. As this is getting a little too far out time wise to be sure of anything at this time, this system doesn’t look like it will be especially moisture laden.
…So overall, we will be entering a wet period again much like the one a week ago.
