Two Units Damaged in Resort Fire in Big Bear

At 8:31 a.m. on November 15th 2018 the Big Bear Fire Department received reports of a residential structure fire in the 42000 block of big Bear boulevard. A deputy from the San Bernardino County sheriff’s department arrived on scene first and reported smoke showing from 2 units, number 4 and number 5. Not knowing if the units were occupied the deputy made entrance to cabin number 4. As he opened the door, flames were showing in the corner of the unit. He broke the fire extinguisher box and grabbed the extinguisher and started spraying it to extinguish the fire. Fire personnel arrived on scene and located the fire in the Attic above cabin number 4. Cabin number 4 and number 5 both sustained smoke and fire damage.

The Battalion Chief and Incident Commander was onscene and dubbed this the “Bear Incident.”

Firefighter’s quick action and response time extinguished this fire quickly. The cause of the fire is under investigation and there are no reports of injuries to the firefighters or civilians.
