At 1:18 pm on Saturday, emergency crews were dispatched to a reported traffic collision with possible injuries in a residential area of Running Springs.

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) and Running Springs Fire Department (RSFD) arrived on scene at the intersection of Sunset Drive and Deer Lick Lane and found a black Toyota pickup truck approximately 10’ over the side resting against a house. The driver, the only occupant, was still in the truck suffering from non-life-threatening injuries.

According to the CHP, the vehicle was driving down Sunset Dr., one of the steepest roads in Running Springs, and was unable to negotiate the turn at the bottom of the road, where it becomes a T-intersection at Deer Lick Ln. The out-of-control vehicle slid across Deer Lick Ln, breaking through a fence protecting a parking pad, and over the side of the road where it came to rest upside down.

Emergency personnel were able to assist the driver, estimated to be in his 30’s, from his vehicle and into the ambulance where he transported to a local hospital with facial lacerations. The house sustained only minor damage and nobody in the house was injured.

At the time of the accident, the roads where icy and heavy snow had been falling. The truck did not have tire chains on. A tow truck was called to recover the vehicle which needed to be winched back up onto the road. CHP is investigating the cause of the accident, but the weather is believed to be a factor.
