At 1:14 PM on Wednesday, a call went into 911 reporting a single vehicle accident involving a truck pulling a trailer that over turned.According to California Highway Patrol, the driver stated his brakes started feeling mushy as he was driving in the vicinity of the city creek ranger station. The driver stated that he continued downbound. When he eventually lost control of the truck, the trailer flipped and landed in a position causing it to block both lanes. Two mountain residents traveling on the highway at the same time declined to go on camera, but stated they thought they were going to die and backed their vehicle up quickly as the trailer was sliding towards them. The San Bernardino County Fire Department arrived on scene from Station 228 with an AMR ambulance. The driver of the truck declined medical treatment. Highway 300 was closed for approximately one hour due to the fact that the trailer was blocking both directions of travel.Don’s Garage from Running Springs had an upbound tow truck stuck in the delay. When the tow truck was passing the scene, they offered to do a courtesy lane clearing by dragging the trailer into the closest turnout. Because this Dons driver stopped and offered this courtesy service, a lot of traffic lanes to be opened sooner than they had to wait for the regular tow truck.Eventually, the tow truck requested by the California Highway Patrol arrived on scene to recover the trailer. Although the brakes were an allegedly involved issue, its unclear what the exact cause of the brakes failing was.
