Earlier today, 911 dispatch received calls reporting visible smoke on Old Mill Road at Highway 138 in Crestline.

A California Highway Patrol officer was the first responder to arrive on scene. The officer found locals who had been passing by the scene of the fire. The locals informed the officer that the smoldering brush was on the dirt road and that they had been attempting to put it out themselves. Shortly after the arrival of the CHP officer, several fire trucks and crews arrived on scene.

Cal Fire crew 3562 put out the smoldering brush with shovels and extinguished with water. The Cal Fire crew remains on scene, where they will wait for US Forest Service to make a final determination and give clearance on the location. Dubbed “The Mill Incident,” the cause of the smoldering brush is under investigation at this time.
