  • Single vehicle accident on Live Oak Drive
  • Vehicle had bald tires
  • Driver refused medical treatment
  • Traffic was affected until overturned vehicle was towed away

At 8:25 am on Friday, emergency crews were dispatched to a solo vehicle traffic collision with possible injuries on Live Oak Drive in Running Springs. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) and Running Springs Fire Department (RSFD) arrived on-scene and found a Kia Soul on its side blocking the downbound lane. The driver was able to extricate himself from the vehicle with minor injuries.

The Kia was traveling downbound on Live Oak Drive towards State Route 330 and as the vehicle approached a hairpin turn, the vehicle rolled over onto the driver side. A passerby stopped and helped until emergency responders arrived on the scene. It had been snowing and the road was icy, and although the vehicle did have cables on, the tires were bald, which according to the CHP, possibly caused the driver to lose control.

The driver declined treatment and transportation to the hospital. RSFD and CHP provided traffic control until the vehicle was towed away. CHP is investigating the cause of the accident, but speed, tire conditions, and weather are all likely to be contributing factors.
