Solo Vehicle Crash ends with One Detained for Possible DUI

At 9:29 am, a report went into 911 dispatchers a single-vehicle accident on Baldwin Lake Road east of Big Bear City. The location given was near the cross street of Cactus Lane in Baldwin Lake.

The reporting party stated the driver of a white Jeep fled the scene of the accident and was running nearby on Vail Road, trying to make access to a RV and a house. The caller party followed him and made sure the driver was aware that he was being followed. While passing the scene, a San Bernardino County probation department official apprehended the suspect and held him at the scene of the accident until California highway Patrol officers arrived.

The officer conducted a sobriety test at the scene of the accident and detained the suspect for a suspected DUI. Crews from the public works department, San Bernardino County, directed traffic and controlled the scene until the responding tow truck hooked up the vehicle and cleared the roadway.

There was minor to moderate damage to private property from the collision and moderate to major damage was sustained to the vehicle. At this time the cause of the crash is under investigation and one person was detained for a suspected DUI.
