“Soft” Head-on Collision Confuses Bystanders and Authorities

At around 6:50 PM, on Sunday, September 23, a collision occurred in the upbound lanes of Highway 18, just below Lower Waterman Canyon. An unoccupied Toyota minivan without headlights rolled down hill, in the upbound lanes, where it collided with a Silver Subaru driven by Adena Lozano of Crestline.

Lozano was able to bring her vehicle to a complete stop prior to the minivan colliding with her vehicle. At the time of the collision, the driver of the minivan was standing in lanes near the unoccupied minivan.

The explanation for how her vehicle entered the downhill lanes and rolled downhill, while unoccupied, did not appear to be entirely coherent. According to witnesses at the scene, alcohol may have been a factor in the behavior of the minivan driver. No injuries were reported.

Traffic control was briefly handled by a Crestline paramedic vehicle and the CHP, but San Bernardino Police are handling the incident, as this occurred within San Bernardino City Limits.
