Snowshoeing A Big Bear Lake And Mountain Attraction Gaining More Popularity Than Ever

Hikers in the winter mountains
A snowshoe is a specific type of footwear to walk around in the snow that gives the person wearing them more maneuverability. While nobody knows exactly when the snowshoe was invented, it is believed that it was somewhere around 4,000-6,000 years ago. It is also believed that it was first used in Central Asia. Some of the first snowshoes had hardwood frames with rawhide type lacings, and versions of these are still used; with more modern snowshoes being made of lightweight metal or plastic and synthetic fabric.

The Big Bear Discovery Center offers Snowshoeing and  personal guided tours starting at 9:00am and 1:00pm on Saturdays and at 9:00am on Sundays.
