At 9:10P on Monday, emergency crews were dispatched to a traffic accident with unknown injuries, originally reported on State Route 330 near the Upper Passing Lane. Additional 9-1-1 calls were placed reporting the accident on State Route 18 near Green Valley Lake Road as well as near the Arctic Circle. Responders from Big Bear, Arrowbear, and Running Springs checked all the reported locations and found the accident on SR-18 at 13 Curves (Mile Marker 36). The California Highway Patrol (CHP), Running Springs Fire Department (RSFD), Arrowbear Lake Fire Department (ABLFD), and California Departments of Forestry & Fire Protection (CalFire) arrived on-scene to find a grey Acura sedan on its side, blocking the downbound (Westbound) lane. The driver, who was the only occupant, was out of the vehicles and appeared uninjured.

According to a statement made by the driver, he was traveling westbound on SR-18 from Big Bear and for an unknown reason, lost control of his vehicle in a curve, spun 180 degrees, and flipped the Acura onto its side against the mountain. He was able to climb out of the vehicle and a couple of bystanders stopped to provide assistance. No other vehicles were involved in the accident.

Paramedics checked out the driver who refused transportation to the hospital. The highway was closed off and on for approximately an hour as CHP and a tow truck worked to clear the wreckage. The fire department provided traffic control to allow some traffic to flow until the roadway was completely cleared.

CHP is investigating the incident. The roadway was dry at there was good visibility at the time of the accident. Speed is likely to be a contributing factor.
