Prescribed burning this week on the San Bernardino National Forest

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. – Fire crews will be back this week to continue prescribed burning operations across the forest, creating safe spaces for firefighters to be placed between communities and natural areas should a wildfire occur. This week’s projects are all pile burning sites and are located at:

  • Baldwin Lake: Shay Road, Big Bear City (19 acres) and Arrastre Creek Road (2N02) (110 acres)
  • Angelus Oaks: Thomas Hunting Grounds Road (1N12) (40 acres)
  • Various fire stations: Rock Camp (North Lake Arrowhead), Cottonwood (Silverwood Lake), Converse (Barton Flats), Big Pine Flats (Coxey Road), and Deerlick (Running Springs).

Burning will occur only when weather and air quality conditions permit.

Due to the winter storm that began Sunday, March 1, the broadcast burn north of Idyllwild around the community of Pine Cove has been postponed. The 189-acre project was originally slated for this week.

To date, fire crews have accomplished over 1,000 acres of fuels reduction across the San Bernardino National Forest for the 2019/2020 winter season.
