VIDEO REPORT: Off-road Motorcycle Accident, Night Rescue

At 9:39 p.m. on 5/29/18, the California Highway Patrol received a 911 call from an injured motorcycle rider. The rider stated that he had crashed somewhere between Crestline and Miller Canyon on Forestry Road 2N38. San Bernardino County Fire responded with Medic Engine 25 and Medic Ambulance 25. Emergency crews arrived on scene shortly after 10 p.m.

The engine, ambulance and a CHP unit accessed the rider by entering Forestry Road 2N38 from Miller Canyon Road, near the Miller Canyon RV camping area. The engine arrived first and stabilized the 46 year old Crestline resident, who suffered a broken ankle in the crash. The ambulance transported the rider to a local area hospital.

It was an impressive sight to see, watching the fire engine, ambulance and CHP unit access that portion of the dirt road. Deep ruts, sharp turns and narrow stretches proved no match for the highly technical driving skills of the engineer driving the engine, Michael Malsed, based out of Station 25 in Crestline. It’s just one more way that shows how skilled our firefighters and emergency personnel are at providing emergency rescue services regardless of where they are needed on the mountain.
