At 1:35 p.m., San Bernardino County Fire units were dispatched to respond to an off-road accident. The location given was near Crab Flats Road and Edison Road in the Deep Creek recreational area.

Fire engines and ambulances attempted to access the scene from Crab flats Road near Green Valley Lake. The engine and the ambulance both had difficult time traversing the off-road Jeep trails.

The Crab Flats IC was established and Battalion Chief 130 took the lead. Air Rescue 06 was dispatched to the scene to attempt to gain a visual on the accident and assess the scene from the air. Sheriff’s rescue helicopter 40 King was also dispatched with a hoist for the rescue.

Emergency crews from Station 91 in Lake Arrowhead attempted to further access the scene with the 4wd utility truck. This truck was also unable to make it all the way to the scene.

Due to the extreme terrain and difficulty of the Jeep trails, it was finally determined that the entire rescue would be handled by air operations. 40King lowered a rescue worker to the scene who packaged the patient for transport. The victim was then transported to Arrowhead Regional Hospital by the helicopter.

The exact nature and extent of injuries that were suffered by the victim have not been disclosed at this time. The cause of the accident is under investigation.
