Major Roadwork Starts Today, May 30th, on Highway 18

Well folks, it’s finally here. According to a press release from Caltrans District 8, milling the highway and repaving along with guardrail upgrades on the right shoulders of the highway is set to begin on May 30th.

The area of construction indicated in the press release covers the areas from 40th Street to the 138 interchange on Highway 18.

The project is expected to extend into late 2018. Large trucks and commercial vehicles are advised to take Highway 330 due to narrow lanes on 18 during the construction.

Initial work will begin at the Crestline Bridge and move downhill as workers retrofit the outer guard rails. After the guardrail work is completed, paving will begin.

Working hours are expected to be 7 a.m. to 3:30 in the afternoon, Monday thru Friday. Lanes of traffic will be reduced to one lane at times. The press release also indicates that there may be rolling closures at times. Commuters definitely want to leave extra time for construction delays.

MountainReporter.com will be doing a video interview with Caltrans to get more specific information and bring that to you as soon as we can coordinate the filming.
