Major Road Work on 330, May 30th and 31st

CALTRANS COMMUTER ALERT – ROADWORK ON ROUTE 330 WITH TRAFFIC BREAKS ON 5/30 AND 5/31:

The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will be completing work on State Route 330 (SR 330) over the next few weeks to prepare for a rock fall barrier project at two locations on the route (post miles 37.1 and 39.8). The $3 million project will begin in summer 2019 and is expected to be completed in early 2020. The project is necessary to address two, high rock fall activity, slope locations on SR 330.

Scaling operations are necessary to aide in the design of the future rock fall barrier. On May 30, and 31, Wednesday and Thursday, Cal Fire crews will be working on the slopes to cut a trail for Geotechnical scaling in mid-June. The Cal Fire crews will work from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. to perform the work with 15-30 minute traffic holds to allow debris and landscape to be pushed from the slope onto the highway.

In mid-June, Caltrans Geotechnical and Climbing Crews will be working to release rock on the slopes in an effort to gather data to aide in the design of the new rock fall barriers, which will be installed next year (see attached fact sheet). Once Caltrans has the dates and time of the Geotechnical operation the information will be released.

Motorists are advised to use Caltrans Quickmap at http://quickmap.dot.ca.gov to check traffic conditions to make informative decisions on traffic delays before they travel. State Route 18 (SR 18) will also have roadwork with the paving and guardrail project beginning next Wednesday, May 30.

Please be patient and follow all commands from Cal Fire, California Highway Patrol (CHP) and Caltrans crews.
