Lightning Fire Reported Near Heart Peak off Highway 38

Not actual burning tree, but still a burning tree...

At 3:28 p.m., Fire Crews were dispatched to reports of smoke and Flames showing near mile marker 34 on Highway 38, above Angelus Oaks.

Helicopter 534 had to be called in to locate the source of the smoke and eventually found a 10 by 10 spot fire burning from a tree. It is believed that the tree was struck by lightning a few days ago and the fire had been smoldering until it finally lit up today. After dropping off Hot Shots near the scene, the Incident Commander requested permission to dip water from Jenks Lake.

Multiple recent fires in the mountains serve as a reminder for local residents to continue preparing for evacuations and have a plan ready for when the time comes.

This website has great resources for families wishing to put together a plan and know what to do if an evacuation is ordered for their neighborhood.
