Evening Traffic Accident Claims Life on Highway 38

On the evening on June 22nd at 6:37 pm, multiple calls went in to 911 dispatch reporting a solo vehicle rollover on Highway 38 at Mile Marker 37 near Onyx Summit.

Medics from Big Bear Fire Stations 283 and 282 arrived on scene to find a solo vehicle accident blocking traffic Lanes. The gray Honda Civic was upside down. The lone occupant reportedly sustained fatal injuries during the accident.

The California Highway Patrol and the California State Department of Fish and Game arrived on scene and closed down the highway. It is unclear at this time if the game warden was dispatched to the call or if he was driving past the scene and stopped.

After emergency crews verified that the woman had suffered fatal injuries, the coroner was requested to the scene. A&D Towing recovered the vehicle.

According to statements made at scene, the female driver in the Honda Civic was traveling northbound on Highway 38 when, for unknown reasons, she lost control of her vehicle and it flipped over. The exact cause of this accident is under investigation are the California Highway Patrol at this time.

A Sigalert was issued and Highway 38 remained closed for approximately one hour before they starting alternating traffic and eventually opened the roadway.

  1. Were there any other cars involved? Could somebody have run her off the road or sideswiped her? A lot of people hit and run these days.
