Evening Brush Fire Breaks Out Near Highway 330

Just after 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, 911 callers reported a visible smoke column rising from over the side of Highway 330 just north of the City Creek Ranger Station.By 5:40 p.m., San Bernardino County Fire Crews had arrived on scene and began working the brush fire. Units on scene included San Bernardino County Fire Medic Engine 228, Medic Engine 226, Brush Engine 231, and Battalion Chief 131. The U.S. Forest Service dispatched additional fire crews as well as a fire investigator and a Public Information Officer. The California Highway Patrol also had a unit on scene.

The fire was burning approximately 40 feet away from a residential structure. The scene was located on the side of a small street called Trout Pond Road which crosses Highway 330 near the cell phone tower below dollar build curve. According to officials the fire burned less than 1/4 of an acre.Units arriving on scene began a fast attack by getting hose lay around the fire and soaking the fuels. Winds were light with small gusts during the firefight.Investigators were at the scene after the fire was extinguished. They could physically be seen inspecting a nearby power pole and lines, however, the official cause of this fire is still under investigation.There was no damage to the nearby structures and no injuries reported.
