Chevy Avalance Rolls Over on Highway 18 July 3rd

On the morning of July 3rd, at 8:35 a.m., multiple calls went in to CHP dispatch reporting a solo vehicle over the side on Highway 18 at mile marker 63. Additional calls also came in reporting that the solo vehicle was on its side.

When arriveing on scene, we found a solo black Chevy Avalanche on its side in the down-bound lanes. A staff member from Mountain Reporter kept the male driver awake and alert until the fire department arrived. Medic Engine 8, along with Medic Ambulance 8 from Lucerne arrived on scene.

Fire fighters with personal knowledge of the Chevy Avalanche knew a portion back of the vehicle was able to be broken out to free the trapped man. The driver, a male in his 60s from Hesperia was transported to a nearby hospital complaining of pain in his right side. Multiple good Samaritans were on scene, assisting the driver. CalTrans stopped on the scene to assist the California Highway Patrol with traffic control and put out signs and cones out to warn incoming drivers. A&D Towing arrived on scene to recover the vehicle. The cause of the crash is under investigation at this time. The extent of the drivers injuries are unknown.
