Big Bear Museum Celebrates it’s Grand Opening this Weekend

The Grand opening for the Big Bear Museum will take place this Saturday May 18th from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. Locals with ID will get free admission and $5.00 per person for non-locals.Games, Gold Panning, plus other exciting adventures will take place. Special kids activities include a scavenger hunt, complete with a prize, a rock painting table, plus a past/present table encouraging children to view artifacts and decide what replaces them today (more prizes for that activity).In addition, the blacksmiths will be putting on demonstrations. Children young and old can pan for “gold” at the sluice. There are also seven buildings to visit with over a million artifacts to see!Summer Special Events:June 15 – Billy Holcomb Day with Ron Core.Billy was responsible for finding gold in the Valley, which was the second largest strike in California.June 29 – The Juniper Store 100 BirthdayJuly 3 – Kids’ DayAugust 24 – Mel Blanc Day & Kids’ DayMel Blanc was the man of 1000 voices, providing voices for well remembered Warner cartoon characters such as Porky Pig, Daffy Duck, Bugs Bunny, and 997 other beloved characters. Noel and Katherine Blanc will host a special presentation that day.August 31 – Anna Crain Reader’s Theatre Play.The Museum is open on Wednesdays, Saturdays, Sundays, and holiday Mondays. Hours are from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Admission for those over 14 years of age is $5.00.
